New Cabinet For Unity State

Published August 13, 2013

A couple weeks have passed since president Kiir released his government, but on Thursday the final line-up of the new cabinet was set in place. The new government consists of 11 ministers, as well as a deputy governor and five other advisers.

About a month ago, Joseph Monytuel (the state’s caretaker governor) spoke to a crowd at a welcoming ceremony promising to deliver roads, health services and clean water for citizens. “New faces means a new beginning for the people of Unity state…” said Monytuel. He says that the new cabinet is committed to working on unity, peace and reconciliation among the community of Unity state.

A resident from Unity state’s Guit county said “We are mostly in need of development on health facilities. Most of our children die mysteriously since most of us widows, [we] are jobless and we are powerless to rise up the children in better life. If the new government means changes we hope he will bring more change in terms of free and better health services delivery to all.”

The last time Unity state witnessed a government shuffle was in 2005 while they were signing their peace deal with Sudan. The new cabinet will be sworn in on Monday and will begin their duties throughout state ministries.
